About The Position

The Town of Whitby is seeking a Part-Time Recreation Program Leader to join their team. This role involves planning, preparing, and instructing youth and children programs and special events to ensure participants have enjoyable, safe, and quality experiences. The successful candidate will contribute positively to the corporate culture by demonstrating the Town’s CARE core values (Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Engaged) and help achieve the mission of delivering services that make a difference in the community. The Town of Whitby is a hybrid organization, empowering staff to work from various locations as appropriate for the position.

Requirements

  • A minimum Grade 12 education
  • Recreation programing, Childhood Development and Youth Leadership Training
  • A minimum of six (6) months of directly related experience
  • Current certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR ‘C’ with AED
  • Strong research skills to be able to develop the programs and keep up with trends in the field
  • The ability to coordinate activities and motivate children and youth participants and volunteers
  • The physical ability to participate in set up and instruct activities
  • Effective demonstrated conflict resolution, reasoning and analytical skills
  • A demonstrated intermediate level working knowledge of technical equipment and computers, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • A valid police criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector

Responsibilities

  • Instructing and supervising participants at drop-in programs, and recreation programs
  • Developing youth programs by planning seminars, theme nights and special events
  • Promoting child and youth programs and youth memberships
  • Attending staff training sessions
  • Responding to participant interests, goals, needs and questions regarding child and youth issues
  • Other duties as may be assigned
