About The Position

North Star Academy, a public charter school in Douglas County School District serving 675 PK-8 students, is seeking a Part-Time Reading Aide for the 26-27 school year. Founded in 2006, NSA is a National School of Character and John Irwin School of Excellence. Our school’s mission is to provide a Core Knowledge education with an integrated Spanish language program that challenges students to meet their highest potential through differentiated academic instruction and rich social and cultural experiences within a safe, orderly and nurturing environment. This is a part-time position, requiring 3 full days per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred.
  • Background knowledge in early literacy skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, high frequency words, fluency, comprehension, writing).
  • Experience in providing small group/one-on-one intervention and formal assessments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide small group or individual Tier 2 and 3 reading intervention for 4th - 8th grade students based on READ and RTI plans.
  • Create a weekly schedule for RTI groups to maximize intervention time.
  • Regularly collaborate with teachers about daily lessons.
  • Prepare extension lessons and activities to support class assignments and facilitate learning.
  • Use the Core Knowledge Sequence and reading curriculum to deliver lessons.
  • Assist in administering screening and diagnostic tests.
  • Progress monitor READ plan goals based on teacher input.
  • Proctor CMAS in the spring for small groups/individual students.
  • Attend monthly RTI meetings.
  • Provide accommodations for students on 504 Plans.
  • Provide additional individual reading intervention for younger students using a supplemental program on an as-needed basis.
  • Complete the READ Act Training.
  • Maintain best practices through embedded staff development provided by North Star Academy and/or professional growth activities and university courses.
  • Follow all policies and procedures established by the North Star Academy Board of Directors and Administration.
  • Provide student progress updates.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Deliver instruction to students.
