About The Position

Sonoma State University's School of Business offers innovative and practice-oriented programs designed to cultivate ethical and globally-minded leaders. The department supports various programs, including the Professional MBA and a Wine MBA concentration. With strong regional ties to the wine industry and a focus on experiential learning, the School of Business values collaboration with professionals who bring current market insights and leadership experience into the classroom. This position is for a pool of part-time lecturers to teach BUS 565W – Marketing and Sales Strategies for Wine in the Professional MBA program.

Requirements

  • MBA or other relevant graduate degree in Business, Marketing, Wine Business, or a closely related field; or equivalent professional experience demonstrating advanced expertise in wine marketing and sales strategy.
  • Significant professional experience in the wine or related beverage industry, particularly in marketing, sales strategy, or brand management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in areas such as direct-to-consumer sales, CRM systems, digital marketing, and/or distribution within the wine sector.
  • Ability to translate industry experience into effective teaching and student engagement.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student success.
  • Must reside in the State of California upon date of hire.
  • Must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree or degrees in any field of business
  • Advanced professional leadership experience in the wine industry (e.g., founder, executive, or senior strategist roles).
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level or in executive/professional education.
  • Experience developing or delivering curriculum in wine marketing, sales, or related areas.
  • Strong industry reputation and professional network within the wine business sector.
  • Experience working with graduate or MBA-level students.
  • Familiarity with online or hybrid teaching environments.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering instruction that integrates strategic marketing and sales concepts specific to the wine industry, including brand awareness and availability, distribution consumer behavior, and demand creation.
  • Contributing applied expertise in direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales, digital marketing, and distribution strategies.
  • Engaging students through lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions grounded in real-world wine industry practice.
  • Supporting the development and evaluation of marketing plans for wine across a diverse array of market conditions.
  • Collaborating closely with Dr. Damien Wilson (lead instructor) to ensure alignment with course learning outcomes and academic standards.
  • Incorporating current industry trends, including e-commerce, global markets, regulatory considerations, and evolving consumer behavior.
  • The course may be offered in an online or hybrid flexible format.

Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month.
  • The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
