About The Position

The Industrial Technology, Packaging, and Entrepreneurship area in the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers and lab instructors for the 2026-27 academic year. Positions are temporary and may be made on short notice, often just prior to the start of the academic term. Assignments are dependent on class availability, scheduling, budget, and enrollment. The role involves teaching in various packaging-related subjects including design, polymers and processing, machinery, sustainability, instrumental analysis, quality assessment, laws and regulations, healthcare packaging, performance testing, fiber-based packaging, and development.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Industrial Technology, Design, Engineering, or related discipline.
Demonstrated currency in the professional field through ongoing work, training or engagement with industry trends.
Substantial and relevant industry experience, showing depth of knowledge and practical application in the field.
Must reside in the state of California at the time of hire and for the entirety of the appointment.

Nice To Haves

MS, MBA, or PhD in Packaging, Industrial Technology, Design, Engineering, or related discipline.
Strong teaching potential.
Commitment to maintaining currency in the professional field.

Responsibilities

Teach assignments in packaging design, packaging polymers and processing, packaging machinery and processes, packaging sustainability, instrumental analysis of packaging polymers, packaging quality assessment, packaging laws and regulations, healthcare packaging, packaging performance testing, fiber-based packaging, and packaging development.
