About The Position

The Tufts University Department of Chemistry is seeking a Part-Time Lecturer to teach Biochemistry II (Chem 172) in Fall 2026. This advanced biochemistry course is taught at the graduate level and is also required for undergraduate Biochemistry majors. It builds upon the prerequisite Biochemistry I course (Chem 171). Topics include signal transduction, secondary carbon metabolism, and the biosynthesis and breakdown pathways of carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, nucleic acids, and proteins, with a focus on understanding human metabolism, disorders, diseases, and cellular signaling at the molecular level. The required text is Voet, Fundamentals of Biochemistry. The semester begins on September 8, 2026.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry.
  • Experience in the field of Biochemistry, broadly defined.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two 75-minute in-person lectures per week on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:30 PM.
  • Hold weekly office hours for students.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with teaching assistants to prepare and review material for recitation sections.
  • Manage student assessments, including design, administration, and evaluation.
