About The Position

The Eastern Michigan University School of Music & Dance invites applications for a Part-time Lecturer - Artist/Teacher of Bassoon. The successful candidate will teach applied bassoon to a studio of undergraduate and graduate music majors and minors. Additional duties include teaching the bassoon secondary instrument class (for music education majors), recruiting, and performing/teaching at various department events and with various faculty ensembles. Further consideration may be given to those with the ability to teach or assist in other academic areas, as determined by the candidate's expertise. This part-time appointment (no benefits) will begin in the Fall 2026 semester.

Requirements

  • Master of Music degree or equivalent (preferably in bassoon performance).
  • Significant applied teaching experience.
  • Established record as a professional performing artist.

Nice To Haves

  • College or university teaching experience is desirable.
  • Ability to teach or assist in other academic areas.

Responsibilities

  • Teach applied bassoon to undergraduate and graduate music majors and minors.
  • Teach the bassoon secondary instrument class for music education majors.
  • Recruit students.
  • Perform and teach at various department events.
  • Perform with various faculty ensembles.
  • Teach or assist in other academic areas based on candidate's expertise.
  • Meet with students during and outside of assigned classes.
  • Assess student work and performance.
  • Prepare syllabi and course materials.
  • Provide copies of syllabi and course materials to supervisor upon request.
  • Assign and submit grades in accordance with Eastern Michigan University schedules.
  • Perform related departmental duties as required.
