About The Position

This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool position in the Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. This position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week. Applications are considered throughout the academic year and reviewed based on departmental needs. Requirements

  • A graduate of Alvin College's Dental Assisting Program.
  • Must have current AHA BLS certification.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.
  • Working knowledge of Blackboard course management system.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) credential.
  • At least one year non-teaching work experience in the field of Dental Assisting, preferably with clinical preceptorship experience.
  • Bilingual- English/Spanish (Speak).
  • Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and the ability to use them responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with organizational guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and coordination in the lab setting for students in the Dental Assisting Program.
  • Assist the Dental Assisting instructor during lab, competencies, evaluations, and open lab.
  • Assist the Dental Assisting instructor with lab instruction, student supervision, skills practice, competencies, evaluations, and open lab activities at assigned times and locations.
  • Monitor student performance, provide timely feedback, support student engagement and success, and refer students to appropriate academic or college resources as needed.
  • Prepare, organize, maintain, and inventory lab supplies, equipment, instruments, dental manikins, sterilization/autoclave equipment, dental x-ray units, suction systems, software, and other lab resources to ensure readiness for instruction.
  • Assist with course materials, assessments, records, reports, and technology used to support lab instruction, course objectives, program outcomes, and institutional requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of dental assisting practices, lab equipment, instructional methods, technology, and applicable college procedures through ongoing professional development.
  • Communicate professionally and build positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, college administration, and community partners.
  • Participate in recruitment, retention, program, departmental, institutional, and community activities as assigned.
  • Follow Alvin College policies and procedures, attend required meetings, and submit required reports, forms, and recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
