About The Position

Hutchinson Community College is seeking a Part-Time Instructor for English at Outreach Locations. This role involves teaching assigned courses in Composition I and II, transfer curriculum, and/or developmental composition. Teaching assignments may include evening courses and alternative delivery systems such as Zoom and ITV. The position may also involve face-to-face teaching at local high school locations and travel to Outreach locations in McPherson and/or Newton. High school semesters may extend beyond the HutchCC academic calendar. The instructor will be responsible for planning and implementing activities to supplement instruction, planning, revising, and updating curricula as assigned, and maintaining records and files, including submitting grades in a timely manner. Daily logon to the learning management system, regular email response, and successful completion of responsibilities are expected. Punctuality, regular attendance, and compliance with HutchCC policies are also required. Secondary responsibilities may be assigned by department leadership.

Requirements

Master’s degree in English is required or a Master’s degree in another field may be considered with an additional 18 graduate credits in English.
Ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems.
Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships.
Ability to communicate professionally with individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, gender and disabilities populations.
Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills.
Ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately.
Visual acuity to view a computer terminal.
Use appropriate judgment and apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations.
Light/indoor work environment.
Ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Plan and implement appropriate activities to supplement instruction.
Plan, revise, and update curricula as assigned by the department chairperson.
Maintain records and files as requested by the department, including submitting grades in a timely manner.
Logon to the learning management system daily, respond to emails regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the department chairperson, the Outreach Center Coordinator, Associate Director of Outreach, or the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
