About The Position

Portland Community College is accepting applications for its Part-Time Faculty Interest Pool in Physics. This pool is used to identify applicants for part-time faculty assignments as the need arises for new instructors. Applications may be considered for both substitute and full-term class assignments. The department will review applications as needs for new part-time faculty in this area arise. The application will ask for a list of current PCC courses you would be able to teach. This is an opportunity to be part of a learning community and play an important role at PCC.

Requirements

  • For PHY 101-213: Master’s degree in Physics OR Master’s degree in related areas AND 30 quarter hours graduate credit in physics.
  • Approved 'related areas' for PHY 101-213 include: Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, etc.), Math or any science other than Physics, Math Education, Physics (or other science) Education, Secondary Science Education.
  • For PHY 121-123: Master’s degree in Astronomy, Physics, Science Education, Earth/Space Sciences, Planetary Sciences, Secondary School Science Education, Geology OR Bachelor’s degree in any of these subject areas AND 30 graduate hours in Astronomy, Earth/Space Sciences, Planetary Sciences, Physics, General Science, or any combination thereof OR Bachelor’s degree in any of these subject areas.
  • For PHY 121-123: Background in Astronomy as demonstrated by academic coursework, teaching experience, industrial (non-teaching) experience, research, grants, professional experience, or any combination thereof.
  • Must reside in Oregon or Washington.
  • Official transcripts are required within 2 weeks of offer date for required degrees.
  • Academic credentials must be from a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution with equivalent accreditation.
  • Foreign transcripts will be evaluated by NACES-approved agencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to teach current PCC courses in Physics.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Physics courses, including lecture and lab components, as assigned.
  • Potentially teach courses from PHY 101, 102, 103, 201, 202, 203, 211, 212, 213, or PHY 121, 122, 123.
  • Be available for substitute assignments as well as full-term class assignments.
