About The Position

Montgomery College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator for a part-time faculty position in the Nutrition discipline at its Germantown Campus. The role involves teaching courses such as Introduction to Nutrition, Nutrition Through the Life Cycle, and Food Science and Technology. The ideal candidate will exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. Applications are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed periodically based on enrollment needs. Part-time faculty are limited in the number of equivalent semester hours they can teach per semester and academic year. Assignments can vary in duration and are not guaranteed, with courses potentially offered at any campus or off-site location. The position requires teaching across multiple delivery modalities and a varied schedule, including potential opportunities for summer classes.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition Science, Dietetics, Biology, or a closely related Biological Science is required.
  • Applicants with a master’s degree in public health will be considered only if they have substantial academic preparation in the biological sciences, including human anatomy and physiology, and coursework in nutrition, metabolism, digestion, absorption, and biological systems involved in disease prevention.
  • At least one year of college-level teaching experience (associate, bachelor's, or master's level) is required.
  • Teaching experience gained as a graduate student, including serving as the instructor of record or in a substantive teaching assistant role, may be considered toward meeting this requirement.
  • Successful candidates must be willing to teach classes on any of our three Montgomery college campuses or off-campus locations (teaching Early College and Middle College students), requiring background checks and fingerprinting.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to teach in a multicultural setting.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., DrPH, DHSc or equivalent) in Nutrition Science, Nutritional Biochemistry, Physiology, Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of college-level teaching experience, with evidence of independently planning and delivering instruction.
  • Demonstrated expertise in human anatomy and physiology, metabolism, digestion and absorption, and biological systems involved in nutrition and disease prevention.
  • Professional experience in clinical nutrition, nutrition science, public health nutrition, community nutrition, or nutrition education, with demonstrated application of nutrition science and an understanding of the biological processes underlying human health, including digestion, absorption, metabolism, physiology, and disease prevention.
  • Experience teaching using multiple instructional modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and instructional technologies such as Blackboard Ultra, Canvas, or similar platforms.
  • For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
  • Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).

Responsibilities

  • Teach Introduction to Nutrition, Nutrition Through the Life Cycle, Food Science and Technology, and other courses related to Nutrition Science.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Participate in department and college affairs.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development (e.g., seminars and conferences) to stay current with cutting-edge pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts.
  • Evaluate and grade students' exams, assignments, and papers.
  • Teach across multiple delivery modalities, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, blended, compressed, and accelerated formats.
  • Teach a varied schedule of courses that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections, compressed and online.
  • Teach at any of the three physical campuses (TP/SS, Rockville, and Germantown), online, and at area high schools in Montgomery County.
  • Apply culturally relevant pedagogies to the teaching and learning process.
  • Engage students in their learning through active, collaborative learning approaches.
  • Incorporate the use of an educational enterprise platform (Blackboard Ultra) and other relevant technology into instruction.
