About The Position

Portland Community College (PCC) is seeking applicants for a Part-Time Faculty Interest Pool for Health Information Management. This pool is used to identify potential candidates for part-time faculty assignments, including substitute and full-term class roles, as the need arises during the academic year. The department will review applications from this pool to fill course assignment needs. Applicants are asked to list the PCC courses they are qualified to teach. PCC is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, committed to making high-quality education accessible and contributing to community economic development.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • Three years of work experience in the Health Information Management profession.
  • For HIM 182: Bachelors or Masters degree in Health Care Administration, Masters in Public Health or related graduate degree, or other recognized credential or license in a healthcare field; Three years related experience within the previous five year period.
  • For HIM 270, HIM 273 and HIM 276: Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); Three years ICD9-CM/ICD-10 coding experience in an acute care facility within previous five year period.
  • For HIM 272 and HIM 277: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management; Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator; Three years management experience in the Health Information Management profession.
  • For HIM 275: Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist(CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC); Five years recent experience in CPT coding.
  • Ability to establish residence in Oregon or Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned Health Information Management courses.
  • Potentially serve as a substitute instructor for various class assignments.
  • Contribute to the Health Information Management program at Portland Community College.
