The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) is seeking qualified applicants for part-time faculty in the Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) Program to teach ARC 221: Concepts of Structures starting in the fall 2026 semester. There is a possibility to teach other classes. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and to developing an innovative curriculum. This position will teach classes in-person, primarily on the Augusta campus. The course, ARC 221: Concepts in Structures, introduces the study, analysis, and mathematical solutions to architectural structures and the forces acting upon them. Topics include vectors, moment and shear calculations, and general stresses and strains on structures through mechanical design principles and related mathematics. Students will learn about the deforming forces of tension, compression, shear, flexure, and torsion and their potential physical effects on building systems. UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative instruction delivery for improved student learning, and effective in using technology, including distance learning. UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, associate, and baccalaureate degrees. Candidates should support UMA's mission of transforming students' lives through their teaching, scholarship, and mentorship.
