About The Position

The Part-Time East Oakland Community Organizer will play a central role in advancing CBE’s grassroots organizing and outreach strategies to deepen our base and build collective power for a healthier, greener East Oakland. This position is responsible for cultivating and sustaining relationships with grassroots leaders, community members and allied organizations; conducting political education and community outreach; leading environmental justice campaigns and fostering leadership development within our membership. The Part-Time East Oakland Organizer will also support the continued development and impact of CBE’s East Oakland program and projects. This position is supervised by the NorCal Program Co-Director and works collaboratively with the East Oakland Organizing team. In addition to the above, racial equity and language justice are key areas supported by the Part-Time East Oakland Organizer. CBE has made a commitment to addressing anti-Blackness and white supremacy culture within our organization, and the Part-Time East Oakland Organizer will participate in CBE’s internal work to meet equity goals and will be a bridge to our members’ participation.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of organizing experience in an environmental or social justice movement
  • 1-2 years of grassroots campaign experience, including building opportunities for leadership development and power building
  • Experience navigating and collaborating within coalition spaces
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to lead engaging trainings and facilitate online, hybrid and in person meetings and workshops
  • Strong knowledge of social justice organizing.
  • Manage administrative systems and files, including timesheets, emails, reimbursements, and campaign databases, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Canva and Action Network.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with people across a diverse range of backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement leadership development training and program activities.
  • Conduct outreach and member recruitment activities in Oakland and regionally, including participatory action research.
  • Coordinate monthly member meetings, periodic community actions, and participate in weekly staff and campaign team meetings.
  • Develop and execute an organizing plan within the framework of our campaign strategy and support online communications using CBE’s social media tools.
  • Maintain and build relationships with entities including, but not limited to, public health agencies, schools, East Oakland residents, labor, and faith-based organizations to further advance CBE’s campaign goals and objectives.
  • Participate in CBE’s internal work to meet equity goals and will be a bridge to our members’ participation.
