About The Position

The New Braunfels Police Department is seeking Part-Time Police Officers to join our team and continue making a meaningful impact in the community. This unique opportunity is ideal for experienced law enforcement professionals who want to stay connected to the profession, support public safety, and serve in a flexible part-time capacity. Under general supervision, Part-Time Police Officers provide responsive and professional law enforcement services while supporting the Department's mission of service, safety, and community engagement. Officers assigned to this position will provide a visible law enforcement presence at City Hall, City Council meetings, and other City public meetings, while assisting with investigative, operational, and special projects as assigned. The City of New Braunfels Police Department operates under Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code and the City of New Braunfels Firefighters and Police Officers Civil Service Commission Rules and Regulations; however, Part-Time Police Officers are at-will employees and are not Civil Service employees as outlined in the City of New Braunfels and the New Braunfels Police Officers’ Association (NBPOA) Meet and Confer Agreement, Article 4.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Prior law enforcement experience.
Must have a Peace Officer License from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and be honorably separated as full-time Texas Peace Officers with a minimum of five (5) years of experience, or a minimum of two (2) years of experience with the NBPD.
Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License (or must be able to obtain as required by Texas State law if current driver’s license is from another licensing state within the United States) AND cannot be prohibited from operating a motor vehicle by any State or Federal law.
Must be able to meet all City and Police Department employment requirements.
Police Department guidelines, policies and procedures.
City, county, state and federal laws, regulations, codes and ordinances.
Texas criminal justice and court systems and the principles of criminal justice records management.
Law enforcement methods, practices, and procedures.
Public meeting security and incident response procedures.
Community-oriented policing principles and customer service practices.
Available local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.
Geography, roads, and landmarks of City and surrounding areas.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively with elected officials, City staff, and members of the public.
Ability to de-escalate conflicts and manage sensitive situations calmly and professionally.

Responsibilities

Provide a visible and professional law enforcement presence at City Hall, City Council meetings, public hearings, board and commission meetings, and other City-sponsored events.
Preserve the peace through proactive engagement, conflict resolution, intervention, and enforcement activities when necessary.
Maintain safety and security at City facilities and public meetings by monitoring activities, responding to disturbances, and addressing public safety concerns.
Respond to calls for service and law enforcement incidents occurring at assigned City facilities and events.
Enforce applicable local, state, and federal laws, City ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures.
Assist with investigations, follow-up inquiries, evidence collection, report preparation, and other investigative assignments based on departmental needs and individual experience.
Support special operations, community engagement initiatives, crime prevention efforts, and departmental projects.
Complete accurate reports, incident documentation, and other required records in a timely manner.
Serve as a liaison between the Police Department, City staff, elected officials, and members of the public.
Assist with security planning and operational support for public meetings, special events, and City functions.
Coordinate and collaborate with patrol personnel, investigators, City departments, emergency services, and other law enforcement agencies.
Represent the Police Department with professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment while maintaining positive community relationships.
Maintain assigned equipment and comply with all departmental policies, procedures, and training requirements.
May be assigned additional duties or special projects as determined by management.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
