About The Position

As a Parks Operations Maintenance Worker, you help make a Saint Paul that works for us all. Here’s what you can expect to do: Perform manual labor to maintain and repair the City of Saint Paul's parks and recreation facilities such as parks, parkways, recreation centers, and other structures. Drive vehicles, operate a variety of tools and equipment, and safely uses chemicals for maintenance work in conformity with all City safety rules and regulations. Information about the current openings: This position provides ground and landscape maintenance of park grounds, structures, facilities, and the operation of related maintenance equipment. This position may require cleaning and hazard reduction involving abatements, and other contracted services. Hours and schedules will vary, weekend and holiday work may be required. Seasonal work (i.e. snow removal, rink flooding etc.) will require flexibility in work schedule. This is a year round position, however there is potential for seasonal lay-offs during the winter months. Employees in this title remain on City health insurance and receive unemployment during layoff periods. NOTE: Employees are encouraged to take advantage of training opportunities that are offered by the City. Employees newly hired who do not currently possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be provided assistance with obtaining training and testing for the CDL within six months of hire as funding is available.

Requirements

  • Must have at least one year of full time experience in turf/grounds maintenance or the operation of trucks, skid loaders, tractors, and trailers.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class B or A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or equivalent out-of-state driver's license with endorsements for tanker and no restriction for airbrakes, with no suspensions or revocations within the two year period prior to the date of appointment; or meet the alternative CDL requirements described below for candidates hired without a CDL.
  • Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License, with categories A & E must be obtained within six months of appointment.
  • Applicants who do not possess a CDL at the time of hire must possess a valid Minnesota Class D driver's license (or equivalent out-of-state license), obtain a Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) learner's permit within three (3) weeks of the date of hire, and obtain a Minnesota Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (or equivalent out-of-state CDL) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction within six (6) months of the date of hire.
  • CDL holders must pass a DOT required pre-employment drug screen and submit to DOT mandated random drug and alcohol testing after hire.
