About The Position

The City of Aurora is seeking a passionate and proactive Parks Steward to join their team. This role involves operating a variety of tools and machinery, from hand tools to heavy machinery, for the maintenance and stewardship of public lands, resources, infrastructure, and facilities. The goal is to provide safe and healthy environments for plants and animals, as well as pleasant experiences for the public. This is a Variable Hour Benefit Eligible (VHBE) position, working up to 40 hours per week, with eligibility for medical, dental, and vision benefits, paid time off, and 11 paid holidays. The job posting is for collecting applications for current and future needs and will remain open until a sufficient pool of qualified applicants is obtained, subject to closure without prior notice. The City of Aurora provides uniforms to selected candidates.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 6 months manual labor experience
  • Current Driver's License with good driving record
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools of assigned function
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with employees and citizens
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment
  • Ability to update records concerning materials and equipment used
  • Ability to maintain and enforce safety regulations and procedures
  • Ability to perform work to complete special functions with all user groups and between city departments
  • Ability to perform snow and ice removal as needed

Nice To Haves

  • CPR and First Aid
  • If employed in the Forestry division, TCIA Chipper Operator Specialist & TCIA Ground Operations Specialist
  • If employed in the Open Space division, Colorado Basic Pesticide Training Certificate or ability to obtain within 2 months

Responsibilities
