About The Position

This is a limited-term, 24-week position (32 hours per week) providing temporary coverage within the Parks and Recreation Department. The objective and scope of this role is to plan, develop, and coordinate City of Chanhassen recreation & leisure programs, including athletic field scheduling, facility reservations, outdoor ice rinks & warming houses, and programs & special events. This role will coordinate departmental programming objectives with the Recreation Manager, Senior Center Coordinator, Recreation Center Manager, and Park Maintenance Foreman.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be a college graduate or student who has completed the necessary requirements for their college or university.
  • Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Minnesota driver's license.
  • Must have a good driving record.
  • Must be subject to passing a background check.
  • Must comply with organizational and department policies.
  • Must pass criminal history background check, pre-employment drug test, pre-employment physical, and driver’s license checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Parks & Leisure Studies major or related field of study preferred, but not required.
  • Prior work experience in recreation services, youth programming, customer service, and/or marketing preferred, but not required.
  • Prior experience working with recreation programs, athletic associations, or special events.
  • Prior experience in customer service.
  • Experience working with people of all ages.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the youth and adult athletic association city field use schedule.
  • Act as the City liaison to community athletic organizations.
  • Work with the City Park Maintenance Department to ensure fields are ready for scheduled activities and that repairs are made as necessary.
  • Manage reservations for three seasonal outdoor picnic shelters.
  • Process and track picnic shelter reservations and communicate with patrons in advance of their reservations.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of Chanhassen's miscellaneous reservable park facilities.
  • Assist with rental evaluations and work with the Park Maintenance Department to ensure facilities are ready for use.
  • Supervise the City's outdoor ice rink and Rink Attendant program.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise seasonal Rink Attendant staff.
  • Work with the Park Maintenance Department to monitor rink and warming house facilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate program throughout season.
  • Organize and coordinate special events, such as the annual Halloween Party and/or Tree Lighting Ceremony.
  • Organize and coordinate recreational and leisure programs for youth, teens, families, and all age groups, including contracted and in-house programming and athletic leagues such as Ski/Snowboard trips.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs throughout the season: gather participant feedback, review costs and attendance, coordinate with school district personnel, and recommend changes as indicated.
  • Arrange marketing and promotion of programs as appropriate.
  • Prepare recommendations for the purchase, utilization, and maintenance of equipment, materials, and supplies needed for programs and events.
  • Support other department programs, events, or projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the City's recreational and community services objectives, as assigned by the Recreation Manager.
