About The Position

The City of Windsor is seeking a Parks Operator to join their Parks, Recreation & Facilities department. This role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City of Windsor Parks System, including parks, sports fields, and other seasonal grounds. The Parks Operator will operate various equipment to ensure these areas are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in areas such as equipment operation and property maintenance.
  • Good public relation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to keep records and complete paperwork as assigned.
  • Availability for shifts scheduled Sunday through Saturday, inclusive of statutory holidays.
  • Hold and maintain a current, valid, and lawful Class G Driver’s Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the hazards associated with the work.

  • Will require a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job, if required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various equipment, including mowers, tractors, and small equipment, for tasks such as cutting grass, spreading fertilizer and seed, using buckets, ploughing snow, spreading salt, grooming ball diamonds, and digging soil.
  • Perform landscaping functions and other duties associated with grounds maintenance.
  • Maintain playgrounds, sport fields, picnic areas, and other facilities, including cleaning work areas of litter and debris.
  • Drive "A", "B", and/or "C" trucks as necessary.
  • Perform routine operator/driver maintenance on equipment and vehicles, including making adjustments and replacing worn parts not requiring a Licensed Mechanic.
  • Perform routine maintenance to facilities.
  • Conduct daily checks of all equipment.
  • Prepare daily written logs and forms detailing service work performed and problems encountered.
  • Assist members of the public in the use of park facilities.
  • Monitor and report on Parks By-Laws and Regulations.
  • Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
