About The Position

Provides specialized care for the parks, right-of-ways, and building grounds of the City of St. George. The role patrols assigned parks, trails, recreation areas, and facilities, performing maintenance and repairs to help ensure equipment functions properly. Work includes maintaining, cleaning, repairing, and painting park features; irrigating, mowing, and planting turf; and planting and pruning trees, shrubs, and flowers. The employee operates and performs preventative maintenance on power equipment, and assists with setup and takedown for special events such as the St. George Marathon. Other related duties may be assigned.

Work is outdoors and may involve exposure to varied weather, noise, dust, fumes, grease, pesticides, cleaning agents, and other hazards. The position involves moderate physical activity, lifting or exerting force, and working in stooped, crouched, or bent positions. Extended or irregular hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays, are required.

Requirements

• Possess a valid driver license; a valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Knowledge of tools, equipment, and techniques used in maintenance, repair, and/or construction of landscapes, irrigation systems, and hardscapes, which may include basic construction projects.
• Knowledge of standard safety precautions.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and understand and follow general work instructions.
• Ability to perform outdoor manual labor for extended periods of time.
• Ability to operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

• Small engine (gas and electric) repair preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned parks, trails, recreation areas, and facilities and perform maintenance and repairs to assure proper functioning of equipment.
• Maintain, clean, repair, and paint pavilions, playgrounds, restrooms, picnic tables, barbeques, and other park features.
• Irrigate, mow, and plant turf.
• Plant and prune trees, shrubs, and flowers.
• Operate tractors, gang mowers, rotary mowers, and other power equipment incidental to the job.
• Perform preventative maintenance and checks on power equipment used.
• Assist with setup and takedown for special events, such as the St. George Marathon.
• Perform other related duties as required.
