About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to perform various maintenance, landscape, and construction tasks in City parks, playing fields, and recreational facilities. This role involves a variety of landscaping duties, installation and maintenance of park facilities, assisting with special projects, maintaining inventory, communicating with various stakeholders, and preparing/completing necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Some experience in maintenance, landscaping, custodial, or a related field.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.
  • Ability to carry out detailed but routine written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of landscaping duties including mowing grass, planting flowers and shrubs, weeding, edging, clearing debris, spreading ground cover, spraying weed killer and fertilizer, pruning trees and shrubs, seeding, servicing irrigation systems, grooming ball fields, and removing snow and ice.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and upkeep tasks for various parks facilities, courts, fencing, and other structures, including roof repair, light plumbing and electrical work, general construction, repairing public facilities, sports and playground equipment, and painting.
  • Clean and restock park restrooms, and empty trash cans.
  • Assist with special projects and seasonal work such as maintaining ball fields, installing and removing decorations, tents, and dance floors, setting up chairs and tables, clearing parks areas of debris after events, and removing/replacing staging materials.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies, initiate orders for materials and equipment, perform routine safety inspections on equipment, and advise supervisor of needed repairs.
  • Communicate with supervisor, City employees, the public, and other individuals to coordinate work activities, review work status, exchange information, and resolve problems.
  • Prepare or complete various forms, reports, work orders, logs, accident reports, and inspection reports.
  • Receive, review, complete, process, forward, or retain various forms, reports, work orders, and application instructions.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and machinery including tractors, mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, spreaders, aerators, seeders, chain saws, brush chippers, ball field stripers, chalkers, power saws, hand saws, drills, power tools, miscellaneous hand tools, pickup trucks, dump trucks, snow plows, salt spreaders, hand spreaders, bobcat, backhoe, golf cart, and utility vehicles.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
