Parks Maintenance Specialist II #1438 - Parks & Recreation - Trails Maintenance - Public Works
About The Position
Under close supervision, performs a variety of cyclical trail maintenance, landscaping duties associated with trail maintenance, and/or new trail construction within County Park trails and open spaces. This role involves constructing, repairing, and maintaining trails and related facilities, including heavy lifting, digging, carrying, brush cutting, and operating power equipment. The position also includes routine, cyclic, and specialized maintenance, repair, and reconstruction/construction on trails and related structures, such as clearing and grading, path improvements, carpentry work, and use of associated tools and equipment. Responsibilities extend to workplace safety, preventive maintenance, operating various maintenance tools, landscape maintenance and/or heavy equipment, and performing support and clean-up activities including restrooms and general laborer duties. The role also involves leading volunteer trail engagements and assisting the Trail Manager with tool and equipment organization and upkeep.
Requirements
- Equivalent of a high school diploma.
- A valid driver’s license.
- A minimum of at least two (2) years of direct work experience in a recreation department, landscaping, construction work, trail construction and maintenance, or a related field.
- OR One (1) year of work experience with Hamilton County Parks & Recreation and a valid driver’s license.
- Regular visits to County facilities and work sites are required.
- Must complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) prior to operating a County-owned vehicle.
Nice To Haves
- Prior work experience utilizing specialized equipment including trail dozers, excavators, power carriers, gas powered rock drills/breakers, winch and rigging equipment, chainsaws, grinders and sharpening tools, etc.
- Prior work experience in trail construction and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Construct, repair, and maintain trails and related facilities as part of a crew and/or independently.
- Perform heavy lifting, digging, carrying, brush cutting, and operation of power equipment in trail construction and maintenance.
- Conduct routine, cyclic, and specialized maintenance, repair, and reconstruction/construction on trails and related structures and facilities.
- Perform clearing and grading, path improvements, maintenance and repair, and carpentry work using associated tools and equipment.
- Ensure workplace safety and perform preventive maintenance and other general maintenance activities.
- Operate a variety of maintenance-related tools, and landscape maintenance and/or heavy equipment.
- Perform a variety of support and clean-up activities, including restrooms, and other general laborer duties involving cleaning and sweeping throughout the park.
- Handle all types of Parks and Recreation materials.
- Lead or co-lead volunteer trail engagements.
- Assist the Trail Manager in the organization and maintenance of tools and equipment in the field, as well as general upkeep of tools and materials.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
