About The Position

The City of Chandler Community Services Department is seeking qualified individuals for the role of Parks Maintenance and Operations Superintendent. This position is primarily scheduled Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., but requires flexibility to work after-hours and weekends as needed. The Community Services Department enhances the quality of life in Chandler through diverse and affordable educational and recreational experiences, creating community through people, parks, and programs. The Park Operations Division, with 55 employees, manages over 1,500 acres, including numerous parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, courts, trails, and specialized recreational areas. Staff in this division are crucial for providing safe, clean, and well-maintained parks that offer exceptional recreational experiences, contributing to the city's quality of life initiatives.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Parks Management, Horticulture, Resources Management, Landscape Horticulture, or a related field.
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in parks maintenance, operations, and/or planning, including at least 2 years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • 2 years of experience using a computerized asset/maintenance management work order system.
  • A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications in pesticide application, Certified Sports Field Manager, or project management.
  • Experience in supervising staff, managing budgets, and overseeing large-scale projects such as facility construction or renovation.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience, including managing teams and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Proven expertise in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs, construction projects, and facility maintenance.
  • Ability to develop and execute long-term plans for park improvement, sustainability, and programming.
  • Strong knowledge of green initiatives and sustainability practices in parks and recreation management.
  • A Playground Safety Inspector Certification, ISA Certified Arborist, or Arizona Certified Landscape Professional within 1 year of hire or promotion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages the activities, budget, and personnel of an operational division within a city department.
  • Focuses on the athletic fields and facilities of the Parks Operations and Maintenance division.
