About The Position

This position performs supervisory duties in the maintenance of parks and recreational facilities and grounds. Plans and directs the implementation of daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules. Analyzes equipment requirements and makes recommendations for purchases. Attends meetings and conferences to discuss current work problems, policy changes, work orders, safety guidelines, and related matters. Receives and acts upon requests or complaints from other departments and the general public. Plans, assigns, directs, and supervises work crews engaged in parks maintenance projects; supervises the maintenance of equipment. Supervises the work of inmate laborers. Inspects playground equipment; supervises necessary repairs. Supervises the repair of windows, doors, and roofs; supervises and performs carpentry duties in the repair and renovation of park facilities. Coordinates the preparation and maintenance of athletic fields before and after sporting events. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance principles, practices, techniques, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in park maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of athletic facilities.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making.
  • Skill in management and supervision.
  • Skill in the preparation of reports and records.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions and to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Must pass the Department of Corrections three-day certification within the time frame required by this department.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
