As a Part Time Parks and Recreation Specialist in Cortez, you will be instrumental in executing diverse programs and events that enrich our community's recreational offerings. Your responsibilities will include planning and organizing necessary resources, while effectively leading and guiding program staff to ensure seamless operation. Serving as the primary communication link, you will engage with user groups, participants, and spectators, ensuring exceptional service delivery and fostering positive relationships. Additionally, you may contribute to broader program operations, including developing and implementing policies and procedures, planning events, and enhancing marketing strategies through external communication and content creation. This role is perfect for individuals who thrive in a collaborative environment and are passionate about community engagement through recreation.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and oral, with the ability to engage with groups of diverse staff, contractors, renters/event producers and patrons.
  • Knowledge of leadership techniques and the ability to lead staff, contractors, patrons, and volunteers.
  • One year of experience in recreation program management, including recreation center/gym operations, fitness instruction, event management, sports league management, or a related field.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and competently use a recreation management system, including entering, manipulating, tracking, and reporting data.
  • Knowledgeable of recreation program design, best practices, and program implementation.
  • Ability to plan and organize resources (people and physical) to effectively implement programs and events.
  • Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an official, fitness instructor, safe sport coach/administrator, or similar may be required.
