About The Position

The Grove City Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Center Assistant to join its dynamic recreation team at the Evans Center. The Evans Center serves the 55+ community by promoting independence, physical and mental health, community involvement, and social interaction through a variety of activities including performing arts, Parks and Recreation classes, trips, support groups, health fairs, and seminars. This is a part-time position supporting daytime and evening activities. The Evans Center Assistant, under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, will assist with activities, classes, and events for the Evans Center's Parks and Recreation facilities and programs.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to follow all rules, regulations and ethical conduct as set forth by the Grove City Parks and Recreation Department and the City of Grove City.
  • Ability to demonstrate good public relations when dealing with participants, the general public, and other city employees, while positively encouraging participants’ involvement of offered programs.
  • Proven ability in written and oral communication.
  • Skilled in computer operation including Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel and web-based applications.
  • Ability to carry out simple instructions.
  • Ability to carry out instructions in basic written, oral, or picture form.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in basic written, oral, picture, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables within a familiar context.
  • Ability to read, copy, and record figures accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a point of public contact during facility usage, programs, activities, special events, or other Parks and Recreation and city supported activities.
  • Assists in completing and collecting necessary forms and records including participant registration, emergency information cards, rosters, maintenance requests, incident reports, maintain daily reports, monthly reports, prepares written reports, answer telephones, takes messages, direct calls, and provides information to others.
  • Makes photocopies, and processes routine documents and forms.
  • Calculates participant fees, registers participants, and collects fees in conjunction to program delivery, instructional classes or other activities adhering to all city policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and assists with setup, room prep, and clean up before and after classes/activities in conjunction with facility usage, classes, meetings, programs, and/or other events.
  • Assists supervisory staff with organizing, promoting, and conducting diversified recreation activities.
  • Addresses participant concerns and assists with day-to-day program operation.
  • Performs tasks as needed such as wiping off tables, cleaning kitchen appliances/equipment, wiping up spills, sweeping and picking up trash etc.
  • Inventories and issues supplies and equipment and maintains proper storage.
  • Serves as liaison between the Parks and Recreation Supervisor and activity instructors.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance.
  • Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
