About The Position

Patrols assigned City zones for parking violations, traffic problems or vehicles with outstanding parking debt owed to the City. Resolves violations by issuing parking tickets, educating drivers on options to avoid future violations, and ordering towing of immobilized vehicles. This position requires being able to work assigned shifts, including work on nights, weekends, and holidays. New hires will be required to train for at least one month in two of the following three shifts before being placed into an annual shift assignment: From 6:00am to 4:30pm, From 11:00am to 9:30pm, or From 4:30pm to 3:00am. Annual shift selections are based on classification seniority. Parking Enforcement hours are based on operational needs. This job posting is considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
  • Ability to learn to operate a mobile two-way radio and to communicate effectively on police radio frequencies.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a State of Florida Driver's license and have an acceptable driving record within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of the Parking Enforcement Specialist Program and a State of Florida Parking Enforcement Certification to write and issue tickets. This MUST be attached to your application to be considered for the position.
  • Must be able to work assigned shift, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Mitigates traffic congestion and promotes parking turnover by the consistent enforcement of parking regulations, resulting in available parking
  • Patrols an assigned area and inspects meters and vehicles for violations of parking regulations; writes summons in case of violation
  • Explains applicable parking regulations and procedures for disposition of summons to vehicle operator
  • Cites illegally parked vehicles and calls towing company
  • Troubleshoots problem situations and performs inspections of valet parking operations and recommends suspension or revocation of valet parking permits
  • Reports broken meters, missing signage and any situations which may be dangerous for follow-up by the appropriate City department.
  • Educates drivers on options to avoid future violations and towing immobilized vehicles
  • Enforces state and local parking ordinances, including time limitations
  • Provides ambassador services by giving information, directions and assistance to the general public when requested
  • Directs motorists away from incidents and/or assists local law enforcement with traffic direction
  • Immobilizes vehicles on the City scofflaw (three or more outstanding violations) list; collects outstanding fines and fees when called upon to remove immobilization devices on vehicles
  • Provides traffic direction during special events, road closures and open and closing of parking lots and facilities
  • Assist Police Department with traffic direction and street closure
  • Performs related work as required
