About The Position

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking a Park Ranger Maintenance to join their team. This role is responsible for supervising maintenance operations to ensure facilities and grounds are safe and meet current standards. The Park Ranger Maintenance will maintain, improve, and protect park facilities, grounds, systems, resources, vehicles, and equipment by performing and supervising maintenance projects. This position requires skills in various trades including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, landscaping, small engine repair, vehicle and equipment repairs, and troubleshooting systems. The role also involves supervising and coaching wage employees, volunteers, and alternative labor, and providing user safety and satisfaction through clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities and grounds, good guest information, and assistance with guest services.

Requirements

Experience in leading, directing, and training by staff and volunteers.
Experience in evaluating work performed by others.
Ability to use a variety of tools, materials and equipment to maintain facilities and grounds maintenance, including mowing, landscaping, tree work, and trail maintenance.
Skills in basic construction and maintenance trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and masonry.
Experience in vehicle maintenance, including small/large engine repair and hydraulic systems repair.
Proficient verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff, guests, and preparing correspondence/reports.
Experience using computers and software applications.
Valid Driver’s License.

Experience overseeing workplace safety, OSHA compliance, and safety training.
Experience in managing/operating public water systems.
Demonstrated experience interacting with park visitors, providing information relating to park rules, park activities, or providing similar customer service activities in a comparable environment.
Demonstrated customer service experience.
Demonstrated experience with supervising grounds keeping, maintenance, construction or other work related to the upkeep and operation of recreational areas.

Responsibilities

Maintain, improve, and protect park facilities, grounds, systems, resources, vehicles, and equipment by performing and supervising maintenance projects.
Use skills in a variety of trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, landscaping, small engine repair, vehicle and equipment repairs, and troubleshooting systems.
Supervise and coach wage employees, volunteers, and alternative labor in the successful performance of these operations.
Provide user safety and satisfaction by providing clean, safe, and well-maintained facilities and grounds; providing good information to guests; and assisting with guest services.
