About The Position

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Park Maintenance, the Lakeview Park Manager will be responsible for the maintenance and general appearance of Lakeview Park, including buildings, facilities, and grounds. This includes ensuring the grass is mowed, shrubs are trimmed, and general care of all plants. The role involves performing and instructing preventative maintenance on all equipment, scheduling maintenance work, and keeping time records. A key aspect is ensuring the safety of buildings and grounds, including walkways, roads, playground equipment, picnic equipment, and other facilities through regular inspections and immediate reporting and correction of hazards. The Park Manager will supervise full and part-time workers, court workers, volunteers, and urban league workers. Responsibilities also include requisitioning supplies and equipment, making arrangements for groups and activities, maintaining athletic fields, coordinating with other staff for events, managing the park budget, and ensuring the grounds are free of debris and vandalism. The role requires wearing a designated uniform daily and performing maintenance on electric motors, pumps, fans, and monitoring HVAC systems within the Noble Center. Adherence to all safety procedures and support of the park district safety program are essential. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• Experience in grounds maintenance and operating tractors, mowing equipment, and machinery used in grounds maintenance.
• Experience in using fertilizers and pesticides.
• Experience in building maintenance and the equipment and materials used in building maintenance.
• Supervisory experience is required.
• Ability to reach, walk, squat, and bend at the waist and knees.
• Ability to operate power machinery relative to job duties.
• Ability to apply pesticides safely.
• Ability to understand and complete record keeping and paperwork relative to job duties.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• A good knowledge of plant material, soil characteristics, and their requirements and of preventative maintenance procedures for grounds maintenance equipment.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Insight into good business management practices, personnel management, and public relations is necessary.
• Must be able to deal promptly and effectively with emergency situations.
• Knowledge of pesticides, fertilizers, and calibration equipment is necessary.
• Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, tact, and resourcefulness.
• Must obtain a valid pesticide applicator's license.
• Requires a valid Illinois State driver’s license.
• Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, park and recreation management or related field preferred, with at least two years' experience.
• A two-year associate's degree in this field and four years’ experience in park or grounds maintenance work may be considered.
• Extensive experience in a like position with similar duties and responsibilities may be substituted for all or part of the educational requirement.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring safety aspects of the buildings and grounds including all walkways, roads, playground equipment, picnic equipment, and other facilities.
• Making regular inspections of all areas.
• Reporting and correcting all hazards and undesirable conditions immediately.
• Supervising full and part-time workers; court workers; volunteers; and urban league workers assigned to the maintenance operations of the park.
• Requisition of supplies and equipment required for general maintenance work in the park.
• Making arrangements as required for groups and activities scheduled in the park.
• Maintaining and preparing athletic fields as required.
• Coordinating with other Park District staff of the setup, tear down, and clean up for meetings and events within the Noble Center.
• Keeping an accurate accounting of all expenditures within the park budget.
• Keeping the grounds free of all debris, checking for vandalism, and making immediate reports.
• Maintaining electric motors, pumps, fans, etc. as needed within the Noble Center.
• Monitoring HVAC systems start-up procedures within the Noble Center.
• Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed.
• Supporting all aspects of the park district safety program.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
