About The Position

The Park Maintenance worker performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled, and general labor duties in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of City parks, recreational facilities, buildings, waterways, and related public spaces. Under the direction of the Park Maintenance Lead and Park & Recreation Director, this position helps ensure City parks, buildings, recreational facilities, and waterways are maintained in a safe, clean, attractive, and operational condition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a timeframe established by the City.
  • Ability to obtain Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs of City parks, recreational facilities, buildings, and grounds.
  • Assist with construction, renovation, and repair projects including shelters, roofing, masonry, sidewalks, fencing, playgrounds, boat docks, ramps, and other park improvements.
  • Maintain parks, landscaped areas, trails, River Walk, playgrounds, and recreational facilities in a clean, safe, and attractive condition.
  • Maintain athletic fields through mowing, grooming, lining, fertilization, overseeding, weed control, and hazard removal.
  • Assist with irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain Park restrooms, drinking fountains, picnic shelters, and other public amenities.
  • Perform interior and exterior building maintenance including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical repairs, and general building upkeep.
  • Maintain boat launches, docks, and waterfront facilities.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, tractors, skid steers, commercial mowers, snow removal equipment, utility vehicles, sprayers, and other specialized equipment.
  • Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment, tools, shops, and storage buildings.
  • Perform snow and ice removal, including plowing, shoveling, and salt/sand application for designated City properties.
  • Assist with special events, festivals, and seasonal park operations as assigned.
  • Assist the Public Works Department and other City departments during emergencies or operational needs.
  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged facilities, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance needs to the Park Maintenance Lead.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry best practices, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Comply with all City policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable safety standards.
  • Assist in maintaining the public swimming pool and bathhouse in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor pool equipment, water chemistry, and facility cleanliness.
  • Safely handle and store pool chemicals.
  • Assist with required inspection reports, maintenance records, and monthly checklists.
