About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Grounds Management Division of the Parks and Recreation Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Park Maintenance Technician III is primarily responsible for leading a crew of five (5) to ten (10) people and performing various general and semi-skilled construction, maintenance, and repair projects within a grounds and turf management setting that are hazardous, and/or moderately complex. The skills, knowledge, and abilities required for full performance must be acquired prior to assuming the position.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years’ experience in park management, landscaping, or a similar field.
  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • Knowledge of and skill in using and operating various ground maintenance tools and large equipment including interstater or boom mowers, slope mowers, tractors with attachments, front-end loaders, skidders, zero-turn mowers, packer trucks, pickups, trailers, flatbeds, two (2) ton dump trucks, push mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the oversight of operational planning, management of maintenance schedules and general maintenance of park lands and amenities.
  • Knowledge of and skill in assigning required tools and equipment for crew work procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety practices, procedures, and regulations concerning park management and environmental protection.
  • Ability and skill in problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and crisis management.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to follow and give verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to utilize modern technologies to communicate and fill out work related reports including tablets, desktops or laptop computers, etc.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and delegate work assignments.
  • Ability to supervise and assume responsibility for equipment, tools and the work of crew members.
  • Ability to perform routine and repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Performing various grounds maintenance tasks using assigned vehicles, mowing equipment, and gas-powered or electric hand tools.
  • Transporting crew members and equipment to various job sites.
  • Following safety and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper operation and condition of assigned equipment or crew.
  • Enforcing safety procedures, policies, and regulations.
  • Completing daily work orders, vehicle pre-trip inspections, and other reports.
  • Responding to inquiries and explaining departmental policies and functions to the public.
  • Assuming full responsibility for vehicles, equipment, and work performed by crew members.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
