The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is seeking a Park Maintenance Manager (Senior Maintenance Worker) to be a part of one of the most highly regarded park systems in the country. With more than 25,000 acres of parkland, nine RECenters, eight golf courses, three lakefront parks, and more, FCPA is an exciting organization to be a part of and there are many opportunities for staff to make a difference at every level. This position will be under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, and will be responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, repair, and operation of golf course grounds, facilities, equipment, and irrigation systems at Laurel Hill Golf Course. Duties include operating and maintaining golf course equipment; performing routine grounds, turf, facility, and irrigation system maintenance; inspecting equipment for safe and proper operation; assisting with preventive maintenance and repairs; maintaining inventories of tools, chemicals, and irrigation parts; completing required documentation and reports; and notifying the superintendent of conditions requiring additional attention. The position also operates and troubleshoots automated irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads, valves, and controllers, and performs semi-skilled and unskilled labor as assigned. The position is located at Laurel Hill Golf Course, 8701 Laurel Crest Dr, Laurel Hill, VA 22079, and works a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Overtime may be required as operational needs dictate, with occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work. A valid driver’s license is required to operate county vehicles and equipment. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Requirements

  • Completion of the tenth grade.
  • Two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to operate county vehicles and equipment.

  • Completion of a criminal background check, child protective services and driving record check.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years performing maintenance activities on a golf course.
  • Ability to operate hand-held, walk-behind and riding grounds maintenance equipment such as string trimmers, sod cutters, chainsaws, and utility tractors with implements.
  • Knowledge of maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • At least two years of experience with the repair and maintenance of outdoor equipment, spray tanks, reel and rotary mowers.
  • Bilingual in English and another language.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the daily maintenance, repair, and operation of golf course grounds, facilities, equipment, and irrigation systems.

  • Performing various semi-skilled tasks, to include specialized concrete and asphalt work (e.g., setting forms, finishing, etc.).
  • General maintenance and repair of machinery.
  • Constructing culverts and catch basins.
  • Adjusting manholes to proper height.
  • Inspecting and approving work of Maintenance Workers.
  • Providing guidance and training to Maintenance Workers.
  • Assisting customers using the homeowner’s disposal facilities.
  • Ensuring that all white goods are properly processed prior to recycling.
  • Assisting with spill cleanup, onsite at the disposal facility as well as throughout the county.
  • Coordinating various activities associated with repair and maintenance projects (e.g., paving, repairing sanitary sewer lines, rodding, and pressure cleaning operations).
  • Transporting crew and equipment to work site.
  • May lead a crew in absence of Maintenance Crew Chief.
  • Inspecting, and reviewing work of a crew engaged in a variety of basic maintenance, construction and grounds keeping activities.
  • May Lead grass cutting, sodding, seeding, and fertilizing activities.
  • Leads playground equipment maintenance.
  • Participates in the maintenance of building walks, gutters, catch basins, and retaining walls, as well as concrete and asphalt paving projects.
  • Completes daily and preventive maintenance reports.
  • Trains staff.
  • Implements safety procedures.
  • Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines.
  • Reports and monitors unsafe working conditions.
  • Complies with safety competencies.
