About The Position

Under general supervision of the Parks Program Assistant, assists in the daily functions of the Parks Department. Performs varied office, program, and concessions work involving some independent judgment and initiative. Performs related duties as required. Applicants for this position would need to be available to work until the end of October 2026.

Requirements

  • Some responsible office and/or store merchandising experience and cash handling experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, the public, and other employees of the County.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of word processing software.
  • Ability to work independently at times.
  • Ability to readily learn departmental programs, operations and policies.
  • Ability to perform a variety of clerical tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective public and working relationships.
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the operation of the concession stand and nature center.
  • Performs a variety of building custodial activities.
  • Assists in office duties including, but limited to telephone and reception; maintaining records registering park users, preparing reports and completing forms; and photocopying documents.
  • Gives information regarding departmental activities or policies in response to telephone inquiries or personal visitations.
  • Handles large amounts of cash and balances out cash register at the end of the shift.
  • Rents tubes, snowshoes, and cross-country skis during the winter season.
  • Assists the Parks Program Assistant, as needed.
