About The Position

Under the Pastor's guidance, this Deacon position is responsible for the effective planning, directing, and execution of parish management functions including finance, human resources, facilities, communications, technology, office administration, pastoral care, faith formation, community services partnerships, and parish-school collaboration. The Deacon directs and leads parish staff in performing duties that enable and support accomplishing the Pastor's responsibilities to the parish and parish school. Serves as the primary operational and strategic liaison between the parish and school, fostering a unified vision, mission, and culture that supports evangelization, stewardship, faith formation, and community engagement. Collaborates with the Pastor, school leadership, parish advisory groups, councils, and ministry leaders to facilitate effective governance, communication, and stewardship of parish and school resources. Assures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, as well as Archdiocesan policies and procedures. Employs a servant-leader approach that positively reflects the mission of the parish, school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, human resources, finance or related business field.
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in directing and managing administrative functions, including finance, HR, IT, Security, Facilities and Communication in complex organizations with limited resources; proven successful execution of change management processes; exposure and experience collaborating with community service organizations.
  • Must be a Catholic ordained permanent Deacon

  • Self-starter; well organized with the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and perform high-quality work with a sense of urgency; proven ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office, including Outlook email and calendar, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team; Must have good written and verbal skills; Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary liaison between parish and school leadership, ensuring alignment of mission, strategic priorities, communications, stewardship efforts, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Collaborates regularly with the Pastor, Principal, parish staff, school administration, Finance Council, Pastoral Council, and other advisory groups to strengthen parish-school relationships and advance shared goals.
  • Facilitates effective communication and coordination between parish ministries, school faculty and staff, parents, volunteers, and parishioners.
  • Provides operational leadership and coordination during school startup, expansion, strategic planning, accreditation preparation, and other major school initiatives.
  • Assists in developing and implementing joint parish-school programs, events, liturgical celebrations, service projects, stewardship activities, fundraising efforts, and faith formation opportunities.
  • Represents parish interests in school-related planning and represents school interests in parish operational discussions to ensure mutual understanding and collaboration.
  • Supports enrollment, retention, and community engagement initiatives by fostering strong connections between parish families, prospective families, and the school community.
  • Provides guidance and administrative support to the School Councils as requested by the Pastor and Principal, including policy implementation, strategic planning, and operational matters.
  • Assists with the development, monitoring, and stewardship of parish resources that support school operations and long-term sustainability.
  • Identifies opportunities to strengthen Catholic identity and integration between parish and school life, promoting active participation of students and families in parish worship, ministries, and community life.
  • Consults and collaborates with the Department of Catholic Schools regarding parish-level decisions impacting the school.
  • Assists the Pastor in establishing and executing parish goals and objectives, including budget preparation, financial oversight, and management, in collaboration with the Pastoral Council, ministry leaders, school leadership, and parish staff.
  • Collaborates with the Pastor, Stewardship Council, Finance Council, Pastoral Council, School Council, and staff to fulfill governance requirements.
  • Responsible for overseeing parish financial operations, ensuring they operate within budget and meet financial goals.
  • Provides leadership and guidance over all parish operations, including Faith Formation, Administration, Facilities, Communications, Technology, and Maintenance, with particular emphasis on finance and human resources.
  • Performs human resources leadership and administration functions, including labor policy compliance, recruitment, employee relations, performance management and compliance with Archdiocesan policies.
  • Ensures all communications among pastoral staff, school leadership, ministries, parishioners, and community organizations appropriately reflect Church teaching, parish mission, and school mission.
  • Builds cohesive and respectful parish and school support teams through training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversees parish records management, facilities operations, technology systems, risk management, contracts, and security functions.
  • Coordinates parish-wide events, fundraising activities, stewardship initiatives, and ministry support efforts in collaboration with school leadership when appropriate.
  • Serves as liaison for the parish with the deanery, outreach ministries, community service agencies, and educational partners.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols daily and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
