The Parish Catechetical Leader, under the direction of the pastor, is responsible for the overall direction of the parish’s total catechetical ministry. This role involves envisioning, planning, developing, organizing, and evaluating all facets of the parish’s formation programming for various age groups (adult, young adult, adolescent/youth, children, infants, and family), as well as sacramental preparation for initiation (including the catechumenate) and proximate preparation for marriage. The leader is also responsible for coordinating, recruiting, facilitating training for, and evaluating catechists and volunteers involved in catechetical programming. Additionally, the role includes researching and selecting appropriate materials and media for parish use, communicating with parishioners, parish staff, and diocesan representatives, and staying current with developments and trends in catechetics, education, and ministry.
