About The Position

The Reunification Parent Educator provides intensive, in-home support to parents involved in the child welfare system, with a primary focus on promoting safe and timely reunification. This role works directly with the parents to strengthen their ability to meet the requirements of their Out-of-Home Family Services Agreement. The Parent Educator delivers individualized parent education through teaching, coaching, and modeling effective parenting practices. Services are designed to enhance family functioning, ensure child safety, and build the parent’s capacity to provide a stable home environment. The position supports parents in developing essential life skills, including home management, communication, and engagement with community resources. The Parent Educator collaborates closely with permanency planning social workers, foster parents, and other service providers to ensure alignment with the permanency plan. This role may also involve supervised visitation and transportation of children to appointments, ensuring continuity of care and parental involvement. The ultimate goal of this position is to support families in achieving successful reunification while maintaining child well-being and safety.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field
  • One year of job-related experience
  • Completion of the NC Child Welfare Education Collaborative (CWEC) traineeship can be substituted for 1 year of experience
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

  • Experience providing in-home services and working with high-risk or vulnerable populations
  • Ability to teach, coach, and model skills in a culturally responsive and trauma-informed manner
  • Knowledge of community resources, including housing, education systems, and social service agencies
  • Experience supporting families impacted by abuse, neglect, domestic violence, or substance use
  • Strong communication, documentation, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining coordination with a multidisciplinary team

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience with permanency planning and reunification efforts within the child welfare system
  • Experience working with families involved in foster care, child protective services, or family preservation programs
  • Strong understanding of parenting education models and evidence-based practices

Responsibilities

  • Provide one on one in-home parent education focused on reunification goals
  • Assist parents in completing and complying with Out-of-Home Family Services Agreements
  • Teach, coach, and model effective parenting, home management, and communication skills
  • Support parents in accessing and navigating community resources and service systems
  • Teach and model advocacy skills related to housing, education, and service agencies
  • Collaborate with social workers, placement providers, and other stakeholders to support permanency planning
  • Supervise and support parent-child visitation as appropriate
  • Communicate progress, concerns, and updates to case managers and service teams
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services, interactions, and outcomes
  • Testify in court regarding service provision, observations, and client progress when required
