About The Position

Casa de los Niños is seeking a Parent Educator to implement the Parents-as-Teachers model and Foundational Curriculum in a culturally sensitive manner. This role emphasizes parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being. The Parent Educator will provide home-based intervention services, referrals, and coordination for families with children under five, children with special healthcare needs, and prenatal women. The organization, established in 1973, is a respected non-profit in Tucson offering services like Foster Care, Parents As Teachers, Behavioral Health Services, and Nurse-Family Partnership.

Requirements

  • Proof of COVID immunization.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to access community resources including public behavioral health services.
  • Experience working with complex multi-problem families.
  • Provides own transportation to and from clients' homes and/or other relevant organizations/agencies.
  • Must be able to meet training and agency requirements for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in childhood development, education, family life education, psychology, social work, counseling or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of direct family support services and direct family visitation supervision.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assure the implementation of the Parents-as-teachers model and Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways.
  • Emphasize parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being.
  • Provide home-based intervention services, referral, and coordination of activities for overburdened parents with children under the age of five, children with special healthcare needs, and prenatal women and their families.
  • Maintain confidential/sensitive information, including client's files.
  • Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management skills and the ability to prioritize workloads.
  • Understand, ensure, and comply with the contractual agreements and reporting requirements of the Parents as Teachers Program while supporting the organization's strategic plan.
  • Engage in community outreach activities.
  • Instruct others in the use of various software applications.
  • Assess physical, emotional, social, and environmental needs of parents and their families.
  • Consult and collaborate with other professionals involved in providing services to parents and their families.
  • Assist parents and their families in establishing goals, training, and outcomes by providing education, support, and referral resources.
  • Participate in daily activities essential to the completion of program objectives: family assessment, home-based family support, parental skills training, case coordination, case plan development, and documentation of services.
  • Conduct and offer support home visits to continually assess family's needs and promote positive parenting skills.
  • Observe and document client's parenting skills and provide coaching to increase parent information and skill level.
