About The Position

The Springfield City School District is seeking a Parent Educator for the 2026-2027 school year. This role involves implementing the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model within homes, focusing on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and overall family well-being. The Parent Educator will utilize the PAT Foundational Curriculum in a culturally sensitive manner, partnering with families through personal visits, group meetings, screenings, and connecting them to community resources. The district serves approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students in a vibrant learning community.

Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in early childhood education, social work, health or a related field of study
  • Experience working with young children and their parents
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Computer skills include web browsing, email, internet, and word processing

Responsibilities

  • Plan, provide and document regular personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting and family well-being using the Foundational Curriculum Prenatal to 5 Years
  • Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family
  • Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family
  • Connect families to resources that help them reach their stated goals and address their needs
  • Help parents and children transition to other services as needed
  • Maintain and submit in a timely manner all required family and program documentation
  • Organize and inventory supplies, materials, etc.
  • Represent the Parents as Teachers program at various community events supporting families and/or young children
  • Engage in recruitment activities
  • Coordinate services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children
  • Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually
  • Participate in at least two hours of reflective supervision and staff meetings monthly
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
