About The Position

The Parent Advocate provides in-home and community-based support to families involved in child welfare services. The role focuses on strengthening parent-child relationships, helping families access community resources and benefits, and providing advocacy and supportive casework based on individual family needs. The position works closely with parents, children, agency staff, schools, healthcare providers, and community service organizations. The Parent Advocate also maintains accurate case documentation and participates in case reviews, meetings, and service planning to support family stability and child well-being. This position is located in Staten Island, NY.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • Successful completion of an ACS-funded prevention services program or similar program required, or relevant life/lived experience with the child welfare system.
  • Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build trust with families and work independently in home and community settings.
  • Ability to maintain accurate case records and documentation.
  • English language proficiency required.
  • Ability to work a schedule that may vary based on program needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting children, families, or individuals through social services, community programs, education, healthcare, or similar settings preferred.
  • Experience with advocacy, case management, referrals, community resources, parent support, or field visits preferred.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular home and field visits to assess family needs, child safety, and overall family functioning.
  • Provide supportive casework, parent education, and guidance to strengthen parent-child relationships and family stability.
  • Advocate for families by connecting them with housing, medical, Medicaid, Public Assistance, educational, and other community resources.
  • Coordinate and accompany families to medical appointments, schools, IEP meetings, housing appointments, and other essential services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case documentation, including logs, Excel records, PROMIS, CONNECTIONS, FASP sections, and other required records.
  • Monitor children’s educational, medical, developmental, and placement needs and coordinate with schools, healthcare providers, and other service professionals.
  • Participate in case reviews, clinical and unit meetings, conferences, trainings, and service planning activities.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, coworkers, community partners, and family support networks while responding appropriately to emerging family needs and maintaining confidentiality.
