About The Position

The Paratransit Driver (Mobility Van Operator) is responsible for safely transporting passengers, ensuring a positive customer experience, and adhering to all operational and safety procedures. This role requires excellent customer service, adaptive decision-making, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment. The driver will operate vehicles, collect fares, perform inspections, and provide assistance to passengers, including those with special needs and mobility devices.

Requirements

  • 3 years verifiable driving record
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Massachusetts driver license
  • Clean driving record – DMV printout required
  • Stable work history
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Positive attitude and enjoy working with the general public
  • Adaptive decision-making skills handling unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to follow directions
  • Consistently showing up on time and being dependable
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing environment
  • Patience and Understanding: Providing compassionate service to passengers with special needs
  • Must be able to correctly use all electronic technology after training has been provided
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical examination
  • Must complete a background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome
  • Effectively communicate with passengers, especially during service disruptions
  • Provide passengers with assistance as needed
  • Accommodate passengers with information such as schedules and guidance
  • Practice defensive driving, anticipating potential hazards and reacting appropriately to avoid accidents
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance
  • Be familiar with assigned routing and detours, including during inclement weather
  • Be aware of ADA Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance
  • Report immediately to dispatch any vehicular accident or passenger incident and follow reporting procedures
  • Assist and help passengers with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers, providing either curb-to-curb or door-to-door service
  • Assist passengers with boarding and properly securing wheelchairs
  • Collect the prescribed fare media and notify dispatch of any fare evasion or fraud
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections and enter all defects on DVIR forms
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and assigned revenue service routes
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned
