About The Position

BRTA is seeking a Paratransit Driver (Mobility Van Operator) to join their team. The hourly wage range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). This role involves providing safe and compassionate transportation services to passengers, including those with special needs, while adhering to all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • 3 years verifiable driving record
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Massachusetts driver license
  • Clean driving record – DMV printout required
  • Stable work history
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Positive attitude and enjoy working with the general public
  • Adaptive decision-making skills for handling unexpected situations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to follow directions
  • Consistently showing up on time and being dependable
  • Ability to work in an ever-changing environment

  • Must be able to correctly use all electronic technology after training
  • Drug screening: Passing a pre-employment drug screen and a physical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and effectively communicate with passengers, especially during service disruptions.
  • Provide passengers with assistance, information on schedules, and guidance.
  • Practice defensive driving, anticipate hazards, and react appropriately to avoid accidents.
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance.
  • Be familiar with assigned routing and detours, including those due to inclement weather.
  • Be aware of ADA Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Report vehicular accidents or passenger incidents immediately to dispatch and follow reporting procedures.
  • Assist and help passengers with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers, providing curb-to-curb or door-to-door service.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and properly secure wheelchairs.
  • Collect prescribed fare media and notify dispatch of any fare evasion or fraud.
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections and enter all defects on DVIR forms.
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and assigned revenue service routes.
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
