About The Position

The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing, and preparation of fecal samples. This role involves meeting department requirements for sample processing, accurately building loads, splitting specimens, finding missing samples, printing and reconciling queue lists, and maintaining equipment. The position also requires an awareness of quality control, calibration, and cross-training in multiple lab specialties. The aide must follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain a clean work area, restock supplies, and participate in improving lab efficiency and quality. Consultation with senior peers is expected for learning purposes. The role also involves ethical conduct, accountability, and reporting concerns. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
  • Positive, can-do attitude

Responsibilities

  • Collect fecal specimens from login, scan into loads, and prepare for set up.
  • Meet all minimum department requirements for para loads and Fcombo set-up rates.
  • Accurately build loads and label processing tubes.
  • Split specimens for Giardia ELISA when required.
  • Find missing specimens.
  • Print and reconcile queue list.
  • Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
  • Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.
  • Awareness of quality control and calibration.
  • Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab.
  • Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area.
  • Restock supplies as needed.
  • Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
