About The Position

The Parasitology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, processing and preparing of fecal samples. This role requires meeting department requirements for para loads and Fcombo set-up rates, accurately building loads, labeling processing tubes, and splitting specimens for Giardia ELISA when required. The aide will also be responsible for finding missing specimens, printing and reconciling queue lists, maintaining organization of the storage refrigerator, and maintaining all equipment including hoods and centrifuges. Awareness of quality control and calibration is essential. The role involves crosstraining and developing knowledge of multiple specialties within the department/lab, following applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work area. The aide will restock supplies as needed and participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation. Consultation with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks is expected for learning through experience. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions
  • Positive, can-do attitude

  • Constantly operates lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
  • Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • The ability to observe details at close range.
  • Extended hours may be needed.
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.
  • Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments.
  • Work under close to moderate supervision.
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
