About The Position

Crescent City Schools is seeking a full-time, well-qualified Paraprofessional for The Constellations Program. This role involves supporting students with disabilities in the classroom, delivering individualized or small group instruction, collecting data, and addressing students' emotional, social, and behavioral needs. The Paraprofessional will be an integral part of the school community, participating in its daily life. The Constellations Program is a preK through 4th grade school setting for students with low-incidence disabilities, focusing on preparing students to achieve their highest independent level of functioning and supporting their functional and academic skill needs aligned to the LEAP Connect. The program primarily serves students with Autism but is open to other students with limited to no verbal skills, intellectual impairments, and similar exceptionalities.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree or two years of college, and/or are Highly Qualified as a paraprofessional
  • Demonstrated past success working with children with moderate to severe disabilities
  • The desire to be a founding Team member of a special education school or students with significant disabilities
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, run, walk, talk, hear, kneel, crouch, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and lift and move up to 100 pounds
  • Must be physically able to perform Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and techniques and react and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: student elopement, physical altercations involving students, or any situation that requires physical intervention to maintain student safety

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the safety and development of the students with disabilities in their care
  • Establishing high expectations for each student, and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development
  • Working closely with the classroom teacher to deliver instruction individually, in small groups, and to support whole-class instruction for more than 50% of the workday
  • Participating in frequent meetings with parents, teachers, and school leadership
  • Collaborating with therapists, evaluators, and teachers to support student development
  • Developing educational materials, learning communication techniques, and using student devices
  • Implementing de-escalation techniques when working with students, as required, after CPI training
  • Utilizing positive behavioral interventions to support the behavioral needs of students, after training
  • Accurately collecting behavioral and academic data as instructed
  • Participating in the life of the school, including student activities and events
  • Tracking student behavioral and academic progress data
  • Taking on other tasks, as needed
