About The Position

Propel Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional for its Special Education Department at Propel Hazelwood School, starting with the 2026-2027 school year in August. This role involves supporting scholars with their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs in various settings, including large and small groups, individualized reinforcement, and pull-out sessions. The Paraprofessional will also assist teachers with curriculum materials, data collection, and ensuring students adhere to school-wide expectations. This position is part of the Special Education Team and reports to the Director of Pupil Services. Propel Schools is the largest and fastest-expanding charter school network in Allegheny County, dedicated to transforming public education and providing high-performing schools for all children. They operate with an extended school year, offering 190 instructional days and 8 professional development days annually, totaling 200 work days.

Requirements

  • An Associate Degree or at least 48 college credits or completion of the ParaPro Test in lieu of college credits.
  • Education related Field or Work Experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a non-traditional, Urban education environment.
  • A positive, high-energy attitude.
  • Demonstrable ability to build relationships with students.
  • High level of personal organization and planning.
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing Professional Development.

Responsibilities

  • Support scholars in large and small groups.
  • Provide individualized academic and behavior reinforcement inside the regular classroom and/or through pull-out.
  • Assist teachers in preparing curriculum materials.
  • Collect and report student data.
  • Ensure students follow school-wide academic and behavioral expectations.
  • Work as part of the Special Education Team.
