About The Position

The Paraprofessional assists teachers in providing an innovative, high-quality education program designed to meet the needs of children in the Boston Public Schools. The role works with school staff to create an educational environment where quality and continuity are key factors in educating students. This temporary vacancy covers for a paraprofessional on leave and is expected to end when that employee returns, at which time the covering paraprofessional will be terminated from the position. The role reports to the Principal/Head of School.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Forty-eight credit hours of college coursework, an associate's degree, or a passing score on either the ParaPro Assessment or the WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.
• At least two years of experience working with young children.
• Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Associate's or bachelor's degree.
• Teacher certification or a social worker license.
• Fluency in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, or Somali.

Responsibilities

• Support direct instruction to children individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings.
• Provide assistance with classroom activities.
• Prepare instructional materials.
• Assist with classroom setup and cleanup.
• Manage individual and classroom behavior using prescribed approaches.
• Supervise students during field trip activities.
• Perform other related duties as requested by the Head of School/Principal.
