About The Position
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant) to support teachers and scholars in creating a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, collaborative, and passionate about helping students succeed. This position works closely with classroom teachers to provide academic, behavioral, and instructional support to scholars while helping maintain a safe and productive classroom environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred
- Ability to work effectively with elementary and/or middle school students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and campus staff
- Commitment to supporting students in Title I and multilingual learner communities
- Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and student-centered environment
Nice To Haves
- Previous paraprofessional, teacher assistant, childcare, or classroom support experience
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs
- Experience working in a Title I or high-need school environment
- Experience supporting English Language Learners
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers with daily instructional activities and classroom lessons
- Provide individual and small-group academic support to scholars
- Reinforce classroom instruction and assist students with assignments and learning activities
- Support differentiated instruction based on individual student needs
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to classroom teachers
- Assist with preparing instructional materials and classroom resources
- Help maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom environment
- Support classroom routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations
- Implement PBIS strategies and preventative intervention techniques
- Provide behavioral and social-emotional support to scholars as directed by the classroom teacher
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other school activities as assigned
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education staff, and campus leadership
- Participate in professional development and training opportunities
- Maintain open and professional communication with staff regarding student needs and progress
- Follow campus policies, procedures, and student support plans
- Build positive and respectful relationships with scholars and families
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when working with students and families
- Encourage students to develop independence, confidence, and positive learning habits
