About The Position

Stearns Elementary School is seeking a Paraprofessional to support students in Special Education, Resource, and Restrictive Structured and Intensive programs. Under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher or administrator, the paraprofessional will assist in developing instructional programs by working with students individually or in small/large groups. This role involves preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom discipline, and conducting planned activities using teacher-designated methods. The position requires adherence to safety regulations, including OSHA and district communicable disease control plans, and awareness of potential exposure to hazardous chemicals. Responsibilities include ensuring student safety and security, making this a safety-sensitive position. Specific duties may vary depending on the program (Resource or Special Education/Restrictive Structured and Intensive) and may include child-specific assignments or location changes.

Requirements

  • Must be highly qualified.
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education with the ability to provide transcripts showing 48 completed semester credits or 72 completed quarter credits, an Associate’s (or higher) degree, OR a passing score on the Praxis exam.
  • Physical ability to adhere to OSHA and district safety regulations.
  • Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan (blood borne pathogens) and be aware of the existence and potential exposure to hazardous chemicals as identified on the MSDS sheets.
  • Ability to work with children, parents and school personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Must be certified to drive a Type 20 Activity Vehicle (Transition Program only).
  • Preference will be given to those possessing knowledge, training and experience in dealing with specific disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to individual students and/or small groups to reinforce educational programs and instruction.
  • Provide additional supervision to students in various settings such as the resource room, playground, mainstreamed classes, lunchroom, hallways, and site-based classrooms.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and the maintenance of required record keeping.
  • Maintain data on student performance and progress, and meeting students IEP goals.
  • Uphold moral character as required of teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Building Principal, teacher or designee.
  • This position may be child specific and may require a location change.
  • Assist in feeding, toileting, physical care, health needs and the safety of students.
  • Endure hand washing several times each hour.
  • Learn and follow medical policy and procedures in a timely manner.
  • Become certified and proficient in District adopted CPI – Crisis Prevention Institute.
  • Participate in ongoing training, such as CPI, lifting/transfer, First Aid/CPR.
  • Supervise students in the classroom while engaged in scheduled activities and take data while conducting educational and behavioral programs.
