To assist with instruction and supervision of Special Education students through one-on-one and group instruction, supervision and assisting with testing and assessment of student’s progress; and to provide assistance to Teachers as needed. This role involves assisting Special Education students in school classrooms with educational programs, special assignments and individual assistance. The paraprofessional will help students with learning tasks and Individualized Education Programs (IEP), conduct learning exercises to help students achieve learning objectives, and assist with the development of individual learning plans, class lesson plans, and special events. The position also includes assisting with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials. Further responsibilities include supervising students, assisting in maintaining good student conduct, guiding students in work and play activities, alerting teachers to special behavioral and learning issues, documenting special issues and problems, completing required written reports daily, assisting with clerical duties, copying, and record keeping, maintaining MEDICAID in Public Schools (MIPS) Program reporting, assisting students with hygiene and self-help skills, communicating with parents, students, and staff while maintaining confidentiality, enforcing District policies and rules of conduct, and reporting behavior issues and other concerns to a supervisor or Principal.
