About The Position

Paraprofessionals provide both academic and behavioral supports for students with disabilities. Beyond core daily responsibilities, Paraprofessionals are future educators in our organization who are not only directly supporting our children but developing their instructional skillset over time.

Requirements

  • At least two years of study (60 semester hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • An Associate's degree (or higher), or
  • An approved state or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of an ability to assist instruction at the appropriate level. Paraprofessional may meet the assessments requirement by passing the ParaPro Assessment (ETS.org). The minimum passing score on the test is 456.
  • Openness to feedback, desire to continue development as a professional, and willingness to take responsibility for student outcomes and achievement.
  • Work effectively with and respond to diverse cultures or backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Have regular and punctual attendance.
  • Follow all School policies and work procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaging, motivating, and relevant one-on-one and small group academic and behavior support to students with a variety of needs in the classroom, using plans and modifications supported/provided by case manager.
  • Collaborate regularly with grade level and Special Education teams regarding individual students' progress and needs; provide data and anecdotal information on scholar progress during instruction.
  • Teach, support and enhance school-wide systems and expectations at all times with all children.
  • Participate in required training as requested.
  • Actively engage in professional development, learning opportunities and school-wide efforts (including but not limited to) issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Supports functional and adaptive needs as assigned; and may include but not limited to toileting assistance, feeding assistance and related needs.
  • Continuously use feedback to make productive changes in instructional practices and overall performance.
  • Complete all administrative requirements meeting deadlines.
  • Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout year.
