About The Position

The PBS (Positive Behavior Support) Paraprofessional provides behavioral, instructional, and social-emotional support to students within general education and targeted support settings. Working under the direction of certified staff and administration, this position assists in implementing positive behavior interventions and student support plans, promotes student engagement, and helps maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. This role primarily supports students with behavioral and social-emotional needs and contributes to a school-wide system of positive behavior supports.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma required.
  • Ability to read, understand, and implement instructional materials.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of district and Board of Education policies.
  • Basic understanding of child development and student behavior.
  • Awareness of positive behavior support frameworks and intervention strategies.
  • Understanding of student confidentiality and district procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to support small-group and individualized instruction.
  • Classroom management and behavior support techniques.
  • Ability to follow instructional and behavioral plans.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Ability to remain flexible and responsive to student needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to problem-solve and adapt in dynamic educational environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with students with disabilities.
  • Training or experience in behavior intervention or de-escalation strategies (e.g., CPI)
  • First Aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in delivering small-group and individualized instruction.
  • Reinforce academic concepts and provide guided practice and feedback.
  • Support student engagement and on-task behavior in classroom settings.
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of instructional materials and classroom environments.
  • Implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) as directed.
  • Assist in managing student behavior and reinforcing classroom and school-wide expectations.
  • Support implementation of behavior intervention plans and individualized support strategies.
  • Model appropriate social interactions and support development of social-emotional skills.
  • Encourage student independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
  • Supervise students in classrooms and across school environments, including hallways, cafeteria, playground, assemblies, and arrival/dismissal.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for all students.
  • Respond appropriately to student needs, including behavioral or crisis situations, following district protocols.
  • Assist with data collection related to student behavior, interventions, and progress monitoring.
  • Support implementation of behavior plans using data-informed practices.
  • Communicate observations and student progress to teachers and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, behavior support staff, and administrators.
  • Follow direction from certified staff and building leadership.
  • Keep staff informed of student needs, concerns, and behavioral progress.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, Board policy, and district expectations.
  • Adhere to all District policies, procedures, and Board guidelines.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and effective communication.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal or district administration.
